Summer as we know it is ending and it’s hard to say goodbye. These sunny days have been filled with trips to the pool, starting new family traditions, and staying out until sunset. Other days were simple and slow, staying cool indoors and playing at home. Regardless of what we do, Max thinks we are on an adventure. He daily finds new way to explore, pulling up on everything and trying to figure the world out. He still smiles wherever we go and his latest joy is sitting in the grocery cart so he can people watch. He’s brought so much laughter into our lives and is a reminder of God’s grace and love for us. Here’s some of our favorite pictures from the last month!

Tony and Kristin dreamed of this day. With each minute that passed, the moments became even more surreal: their first baby would be here soon.

The phrase “hustle and wait” was thrown around a few times, that feeling we have all had with impending birth. The rush to pack and get to the hospital, only to wait and wait until baby is ready to make her appearance into the world. It’s hard to have patience at times like these, the excitement and anxiousness can be overwhelming. But mom and dad stayed positive, continually smiling and remembering the dream that was going to come true in a matter of hours.

While the world was sleeping, little Nora made her arrival just a few minutes past midnight. I was honored to be present at her birth, photographing her first moments outside the womb. She’s already so treasured and loved by many, including her grandparents who stayed up all night in the waiting room to meet her. I’ll never forget the tears of joy and pride on their faces as they heard a little girl was added to the family. It’s hard to put into words the emotions that come with new life, but pictures and video take us back to these new beginnings. Watch Nora’s Birth Story film here:

Every summer writes a story, a chapter in the book of childhood. So many memories to be made and moments to be shared. It’s really the best thing. And while we are desperate as parents to bottle up time, the only thing we can do is document them through photography and film, to remember and relive and revive the past. Because it’s the ordinary times with children that can become the extraordinary and if we are not careful, we might just miss it.

The Casey Family graciously welcomed me into their home on a warm summer evening to photograph and film these moments. Gathering the kids together for a backyard picnic, I was able to capture a glimpse of their everyday life. My hope is that is documentation will be a treasure for their children, a gift that will be cherished for years to come.

It was a perfect summer morning at one of Kansas City’s beautiful and iconic locations! A few photographs to start their day, this family soaked in some sweet moments together. Three barefoot littles with bright smiles and the best dance moves, they are full of life. And as they delight in one another, mom and dad’s hearts swell with pride.

It was an event over a year in the making. A time of firsts and introductions and gathering together as a family. The beginning of a new era, three cousins born within 9 weeks and bound to be friends and brothers for life. We had eagerly waited and anticipated for this day.

I was the first to announce my pregnancy, something I had kept secret for months, waiting for the perfect moment to spill the beans. Our families celebrated and rejoiced with the news and a few short weeks later found ourselves beaming with joy again to hear that another baby would be added to the family, due within weeks of ours. I was elated to be pregnant at the same time as my sister! Little did we know that God was planning for an additional baby to be added…three sisters…three boys…in less than three months.

Both of my big sisters (plus the rest of my family) arrived in Kansas City for the 4th of July and it was our first time to have everyone together since the babies were born. Something I’ll always remember and cherish! This month was full of family time and so my camera card was full too, documenting all of the moments and memories. I love that Max’s 7th month video and pictures are filled with cousins and grandparents and aunts and uncles…people that love him and will always be there for him. You can watch his monthly video here:

I had so many pictures this month with all of our family, but I wanted to include some of just Max to show his growth over the months. He’s becoming more and more mobile, army crawling around the house and getting into anything he can find.  He said “mama” this month, a gift to my heart as he’s always been a daddy’s boy. I watched my mom and brother’s relationship over the years and I’m starting to experience the special mother-son bond. Nothing like it!
